With Christmas fast approaching, many of us will be attending all manner of events and parties. As we have fun getting all dolled up and looking our best this season, bear in mind that all these events may have negative effects on our hair. How you may ask?

In the process of trying to get your hair looking picture perfect for the season, chances are you will resort to using heat a more frequently than normal. Excessive heat use damages hair. Heat from flat irons and curling irons, and blow dryers are great for getting hair straight and perfectly styled, but they damage hair over time. Even for those who wear weaves it shortens the life span of your extensions, and the hair left out to blend with the weaves gets damaged very quickly. This is why a lot of women have very short broken hair in front.

So how can you look great this Christmas without damaging your hair or extensions? Easy. All you have to do is be conscious of your hair.

If your real hair is out avoid using direct heat, roller set your hair instead. This is much less damaging option to styling your hair.

Always wash and condition your hair before installing a weave.

If you have a weave installed with your real hair left out in front to blend. Make sure your real hair left out is well conditioned and moisturized before using a flat or curling iron to style.

Try and wash and condition the hair you’ve left out to blend with your weave at least once a week. Hair that is well conditioned and clean will suffer less damage when during heat styling

Limit using heat to once a week on the your real hair left out, and always use a heat protectant before any form of heat styling.

You can use heat more frequently on your hair extensions, but bear in mind if you heat style it daily regularly you will shorten it’s life span by giving it split ends. Remember human hair, virgin remy or not can still get split ends. You can still protect your hair extensions by using a heat protectant on your extensions whenever you heat style.

Use rollers to preserve or style your hair. Rollers of various sizes can give you the same exact look as a flat iron or curling iron, it just takes a bit longer. Your hair will thank you for it.

We all want to look great for the holidays, but let’s do it with our hair intact!

Have a Merry Christmas Everybody!

Did you know that goat milk is not just for ingestion? Goat milk has many benefits to one’s wellbeing and you don’t have to drink it to get those benefits. Goat milk has amazing benefits in skin care. It’s even rumored that Cleopatra herself would bathe in a tub of goat’s milk to make her skin ageless and soft.

What are the benefits of using goat milk based products on your skin?

Goat milk contains alpha hydroxyl acids (Lactic). These acids aid in exfoliation and skin renewal. By loosening and removing dead skin cells newer skin is revealed, thus giving you a more youthful appearance.

Goat milk also is rich in vitamins most especially A. People who suffer from acne will appreciate this, because vitamin A, has been shown to effectively combat acne. Vitamin A is also excellent in boosting collagen production, and smoothing out lines and wrinkles.

Goat milk is perfect for people who suffer from extremely dry and sensitive skin. Skin issues such as eczema, and psoriasis, can be soothed and reduced by using goat milk. The creamy fat found in the milk is perfect for moisturizing and soothing skin.

Question: So how do can you add goat’s milk to your skin routine?

Answer: Easy! Look for soaps or body lotions made with goat milk. The main difference between goat milk soap and regular soap is that water is replaced with goat’s milk.

The Black Beauty Fanatic’s Verdict

I was given a sample of goat milk soap at the Naturals In The City Meet up, and I’ve been using it for about 2.5 weeks now on my face and I have to say I’m impressed. No breakouts, my face seems soft, clean and moisturized. The only dislike is that it doesn’t lather up, so it doesn’t seem great for full body use. Other than that it’s a good product. I can see that goat’s milk soap would be excellent for people with really sensitive skin.

Happy New Month Everybody I’m going for a full 4 month stretch. My last relaxer was around the end of the August. I think and I want to wait to about mid December before I relax my hair again. So what is that, like a 4.5 month stretch? I know it’s going to take some serious power to stretch that long, but I’m pretty much almost there so I think I can do it.

Anywayz ,so that I’m not looking like a hot mess for the Christmas season I’ve decided to weave it up for the next two weeks. It’s actually quite crazy because I haven’t done a weave since February. :-O!!!!! But I’m excited to be getting all glammed up for my favorite season. I feel like I want big hair… never mind looking natural. I want something different and va va voom. I have been bored with my hair as of late so I’m looking forward to ramping it up a bit.

So far my hair has been behaving itself so I’m quite happy with it. My regimen is still the same just with a few tweaks. I realize that the hair closer to my scalp is less relaxed than the ends (I’m not sure if that makes sense to you guys.) but ever since I’ve been going to the hairdressers to get my relaxers done, they’ve been doing a better job of texlaxing my hair than I did, so there is a lot more texture near my roots. This is great because my hair is a lot thicker, but it is wreaking havoc on my moisture protein balance.

The thing is my ends need and like the protein treatments, but my roots always get a protein overload. Then if I just use moisture-based products, my ends can’t withstand any kind of force (especially when wet) and my hair starts to break. This was my dilemma for the longest time, till a light bulb went off in my head…

Why not just apply protein to the parts of your hair that need it, after all there is no rule that says you have to apply treatments or conditioners to all parts of your hair. So midweek when I cowash, I apply my protein treatment to the last 5 or so inches of my hair (the part that gets packed into a ponytail). Leave it on for 2-5 minutes rinse out, and then I cowash as usual with my moisturizing conditioner. So far this has worked great for my protein moisture balance. The ends of your hair are the oldest and most fragile so they need the extra strength to resist breakage, when combing or styling.

I’m definitely gonna take pictures of the weave once it’s installed so you guys can see what I’m rocking.

Have blessed month!

I always wondered why Nigeria didn’t host any hair shows, and we have so many salons and would be hairdressers. The way Nigerian women love hair you would think there would be a hair convention, festival or some sort of display show. Well apparently there is and I have to say I was a bit impressed. Kaneka Corporation Japan, the makers of the “finest quality fibers” hosted their third Kanekolon Night of 1000 Braids event this month at Eko Hotel and Suites. This show has been held annually for the past 3 years! Go figure.

The night is gala/dinner party to celebrate and showcase the success and quality of kanekalon brand fiber. For those of you wondering what the heck kanekalon fiber is, it’s what Expressions hair extensions are made of. Yup, the same Expressions hair you braid with. It was fun filled night with many celebrities and socialites in attendance, including the kanekalon brand ambassador Stephanie Okereke-Idahosa.

There were a lot of interesting braided styles that night, from the models, to the guests in attendance.
